I came across this very interesting Vice documentary about the booming marijuana business in the United States.   This documentary looks specifically at the marketing path marijuana businesses and marketing firms are taking to target marijuana products to new segments of the public.

The documentary takes a very pro-marijuana stance and is up front about its marketing initiatives and desire to expand into new markets.   As the marijuana market, it’s lobby, and marketing agencies grow, people will be exposed to more pro-marijuana media, but may not be aware of the possibility of dependence or other health issues.   This documentary is a sharp contrast to A Second Class Addiction that is in Module 1 of the program.

Since this is a new blog, I will state the QuitMarijuana.Org isn’t out there to condemn marijuana.  There are legitimate health uses and we know that most people can smoke without an issue.    This site is here to help people who want or need to quit.   That’s it.  We don’t want to get caught up in the politics of legalization, decriminalization, reclassification.     We aren’t anti-marijuana or funded by the government.

That being said, I firmly believe we are going to see a sharp rise in number of people having issues in their lives that are caused or exacerbated by marijuana use.   If an additional 1 million people smoke regulary, we can expect somewhere between 50,000 to 90,000 to become dependent or daily smokers.    Combine this with the fact that weed is getting much stronger and causing more ER visits, and we will begin to see that while marijuana is far less harmless than alcohol, nicotine and other drugs, it isn’t completely harmless to everyone.

Please have a look at the video and tell us what you think in the comments.

Will more mothers become addicted to marijuana because of marketing like this?
